Lee County reminds leaders of organizations such as Homeowners Associations that a deadline is nearing for applications to potentially receive state funding to repair infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Ian.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) deadline is end of day on Monday, July 31. The program is part of the $350 million allocated by the Legislature and approved by Gov. Ron DeSantis that FDEM will use to fund gaps in hurricane repairs and recovery for both Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Nicole.

HOAs and similar organizations that can provide a 50% match can apply for state funding for repairs and replacement such as roads, sewer, water facilities, beach renourishment, seawalls or debris removal. FDEM will evaluate applications and select projects for funding.

This program is among several that fall under the 2023/24 Hurricane Legislative Appropriation Program, which made the $350 million available.

Prior to application, HOAs and other organizations will need to provide:

• What you are applying for (project scope)

• Estimated total project cost

• Evidence of ability to provide matching funds (50% of project cost)

• Primary contact and alternate point of contact

Community associations may not apply directly to FDEM. Applications must be submitted by counties or cities. Interested organizations should contact Lee County’s Office of Strategic Resources & Government Affairs by emailing StrategicResources@leegov.com. The county will submit application via the FDEM program portal HERE.
