Hurricane Ian peaked as a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 160 mph early on Sept. 28, 2022, while progressing toward the west coast of Florida, and made landfall just below peak intensity in Southwest Florida.
This powerful storm left a profound and enduring mark on Sanibel, Captiva, Fort Myers, Pine Island and all of the surrounding areas. Hurricane Ian’s damaging winds and unforgiving storm surge ravaged the communities, demolished homes and businesses, left countless lives turned upside down, and tested the spirit of our community. But from the chaos, and through the continuing recovery process, stories of resilience, unity, and unwavering hope have emerged.
Sanibel Art Colony (SAC) is inviting artists to submit images (or videos) of artwork in all mediums:
• Depicting hope for the future of Sanibel Island and Southwest Florida
• Expressing the artist’s feeling and/or experiences before/during/after the hurricane
