Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District Housing Ceremony for TK102 Monday, Sept. 11
PROVIDED
The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District will welcome a new Pierce Aerial Platform to its fleet during a Housing Ceremony at Station 102, at 44 Homestead Road S.
Truck 102 is a 2023 Pierce Velocity 100′ Heavy-Duty Steel Aerial Platform. It carries 500 gallons of water and features a Waterous pump that is rated to flow 2,000 gallons of water per minute. The truck also features fold down steps for firefighter ergonomics, 121′ of ground ladder storage, and EMS compartments.
Truck 102 will replace the 2004 Pierce Quint that is currently housed at Station 102.
The Housing Ceremony is a tradition dating back almost 200 years to the days of horse-drawn pumpers.
It is particularly meaningful to push this truck into service on Sept. 11, a day that we remember the 343 New York Fire Department firefighters who heroically gave their lives while trying to save others during the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The new truck features a memorial to these firefighters so that their legacy lives on forever.
Schedule of Events (beginning at 8:30 a.m.)
• Chief DiLallo addresses the crew of Truck 102
• Blessing from Chaplain Goodman
• Moment of Silence at 8:46am in Remembrance of 9/11
• Washing of Wheels – This signifies what was done in the hub and spoke era, when the wheels of the fire truck were always washed down after they had been used to keep the wooden wheels from drying and cracking.
• Hose Down – This signifies the “first bath” of Truck 102 (hosing engine down and drying off).
• Push-in – Firefighters and other District staff will push Truck 102 into the bay to signify what was done by crews when a horse-drawn apparatus was used. When the crew and horses returned to quarters, they unhooked the horses and pushed the apparatus into the bay.
• Chief DiLallo’s closing remarks.
