VFW: Something old, something new
We have all heard the adage of Something Old, Something New, so often in our life time. It is generally used in context with a wedding and the apparel of the bride. Most of the time, the something borrowed is a special piece of jewelry, or maybe even the bride carrying a very lacy handkerchief to wipe the tears of joy being which are being shed. The something new can be almost anything from shoes to the garter.
Well, here at the VFW Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres, while we may not be celebrating nuptials, we are definitely following the something old, something new status. The something old is, of course, all the activities you have come to expect of us each and every day. As a reminder, some of the activities include Bingo games, lunches, dinners, entertainments, meetings and our always popular Sunday breakfast. We also have special raffles, and there is our many donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our Post also travels to the Day Cares in our neighborhood to educate the young on Patriotism and the flag.
The something new is what we are waiting to learn about from our new officers who have taken over as of July and have been holding their monthly meetings to begin establishing their new ideas. Some of the discussions revolve around the different repairs which may be needed for the building. Other discussions could pertain to some of the events that the current officers may want to have performed throughout the coming year. Also, a very important consideration of the new regime is how to improve and continue the many different committees we are responsible for in our community.
One of the newer things we have going on is a suggestion box and the comments in there are taken very seriously by the commander of the post. We will be amending a few of our bylaws in accordance with the District and striving to better our relations with all the other posts in our district. We are also working with National to continue fighting for our Veterans, their families and their rights which they have earned as a thank you for their service.
If you’re looking for something new to add to your life, come join us at 25 S. Homestead Road for our many events. The Public is always welcome at all meals and if you do manage to stop in, you’ll be glad you did!
