Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for adults and children.

The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

English Café

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Knit and Stitch

1 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 4, 18

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters that join together to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Book Discussion

10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5

For this gathering, there is no pre-selected title. Come prepared to discuss your personal pick, whether it’s a recent read or a longtime favorite. As the group grows, we will transition to monthly group reads selected several months in advance, chosen with input from the group.

Cultures of Remembrance: Ancestor Practices Worldwide

3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7

In many cultures, people seek providence from their deceased ancestors. As we approach Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), learn how different cultures communicate spiritually, how humans remember each other through global practices and engage in sharing your own experiences of the “grateful dead.”

Children’s Programs

Family Storytime

10 a.m. Fridays, Oct. 6, 27

For children through age 5 and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement. Space is limited. First come, first served.
