Next month’s roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages.

The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

English Café

6 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 1, 8, 15, 29

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Chess Anyone?

2 p.m. Mondays, Nov. 6, 13, 20, 27

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring your own chess set or use one of ours.

Book Discussion: “Anxious People” by Fredrik Backman

3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6

Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage.

11 a.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 7, 21

Receive personalized help downloading e-books, movies, music and more from Overdrive/Libby and Hoopla, two of Lee County Library System’s largest online content providers. Bring your fully charged digital device for this hands-on help session. Note: Please bring any passwords you may need for downloading apps. Kindle users will also need an Amazon account and their password for accessing it.

Knit and Stitch

5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters that join together to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

History of Buckingham Army Airfield

2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10

Learn about the development, use and life of the Buckingham Army Airfield and Gunnery Instructors School and its pivotal role in shaping the defense of our WW II bombers. Presenter Ted Mikita is a retired airline pilot and World War II researcher from Cape Coral, with a direct family connection to the Gunnery School.

East County Craft Club: Artisan Wrapping Paper**

2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18

Create hand stamped artisan wrapping paper using acrylic paint and stamps of different types and sizes. This program is intended for ages 18 and up.

Children’s Programs

Kids Read Down Fines

2 – 6 p.m. Mondays, Nov. 6, 13, 20, 27

11 a.m. – Noon Saturday, Nov. 18

Children and teens can earn a $2 credit on overdue fines for every 15 minutes they read in the designated area for a total of $8 in one session. Please bring your library card.

Family Storytime

10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 1, 8, 15, 29

For children through age 5 years and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.

Preschool Storytime

10:30 a.m. Thursdays, Nov. 2, 9, 16, 30

For ages 3-5. Children attend this program independently while parents and caregivers wait nearby.

STEAM Explorers

1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4

Children ages 5-11 are invited for a story and activity based on the aspects of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. This is a great opportunity for parents and kids to learn and get creative together.

Toddler Tales

10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 7, 14, 28

For ages 18 – 36 months and caregivers. Toddlers and caregivers move and groove during this interactive storytime.

Read to the Dogs

11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18

Join us at the library for reading to dogs. The dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team to help improve the literacy skills of children. Children can read down fines or just develop a love of reading through reading to dogs.

Teen Programs

Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT)

2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1

SWAT is an organization with an active, involved membership for middle and high school students that gives youth a voice to stand up to Big Tobacco. SWAT empowers youth to educate their peers about the manipulative tactics of Big Tobacco, so that together you can make a change for the next generation. By joining SWAT, you can earn service hours, make a difference in the lives of others, gain leadership skills and much more.

Library Teen Talk

2 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 7, 14, 28

High school teens are invited to the library for a weekly discussion about current events, everyday life, library resources and more. Teens will be encouraged to post an answer to a weekly question while socializing and making new friends.

High School Game Day

2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15

Play board games, video games, card games and more at the library. High school teens are invited to join us for fun, games and socializing with friends after school.

TAG: Teen Advisory Group

5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28

Be a part of the East County Regional Library’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) and help make your library’s teen area the place to be. TAG members assist with program planning, suggest book titles and help create displays in the teen area. Service hours and light snacks provided. For teens, ages 12-17.

High School Movie

2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29

High school teens are invited to sit back and enjoy a movie. Bring your friends and some snacks. Please call the East County Regional Library for movie title before the event. Movie ratings range from G to PG-13.
