Lehigh man gets 30 years in prison for roadway shooting case
Brione Lamar Joiner
This week, a Lehigh man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in a case involving shooting at a passing vehicle.
Brione Lamar Joiner, found guilty in August, was sentenced as a habitual felony offender.
On Sept. 10, 2022, two Lee County Sheriff’s deputies, responding to an unrelated call in Lehigh, heard multiple gunshots nearby and immediately drove in that direction.
They found a pick-up truck, in the intersection of 28th Street Southwest and Quentin Avenue South, with multiple bullet holes. The truck’s driver was unharmed.
Multiple 9mm shell casings were found in the roadway. Video surveillance from a nearby building showed a man driving a red Dodge Challenger in the area around the time the shots were fired, as well as the same man standing in the roadway firing a gun. Deputies located the vehicle at a Lehigh residence, but the female car owner was uncooperative.
Another home surveillance camera, showed a man matching Joiner’s description, driving the Challenger into the home’s garage, around the time of the shooting.
As deputies were executing a search warrant at the house the next day, they heard a noise in the attic. Joiner suddenly climbed out of a rear window of the home and ran.
Deputies and detectives told Joiner to stop running multiple times, but he ignored them.
He was captured several blocks away and taken into custody. A 9mm magazine to hold bullets for a Glock pistol was found in the home, which matched the 9mm shell casings found at the crime scene.
Joiner received credit time served for discharging a firearm in public and resisting an officer without violence.
