Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers announce 2023-2024 concert season under new artistic director
Southwest Florida’s premier choral ensemble, the Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers, announce their performance schedule for the 2023-2024 season under the direction of new artistic director Matt Koller. Performances will be held throughout the Southwest Florida region and include a variety of masterworks, new works and classical favorites.
Koller, a graduate of Westminster Choir College, has been a part of the Mastersingers organization since 2011 and helped found the City of Palms Youth Choir in 2016 which he continues to direct. Following a competitive national search, Koller was hired as the Artistic Director for the Mastersingers in July 2023, a testament in part to his talent, character and commitment to the organization.
“I am thrilled to be directing the Mastersingers this season and hopefully for many seasons to come,” Koller said. “I’m excited to find ways to stretch our singers and improve our sound even further, as well as introduce some beautiful musical selections to our audiences this season.”
Highlights for this season include a Mastersingers holiday concert titled “The Holy Boy” on Dec. 17 at Peace Lutheran Church also featuring the City of Palms Youth Choir and the Intermezzo Choir, performing holiday selections by Mendelsohn, Rutter, Handel and many others. Also, a spring concert titled “Everyday Wonders” will feature the piece Everyday Wonders: The Girl from Aleppo by Cecilia McDowall with piano and violin on April 7 at New Hope Presbyterian. Additionally, the Mastersingers will perform multiple concerts in partnership with Gulf Coast Symphony including the annual Deck the Halls concert on Dec. 3 at Barbara B. Mann and multiple performances of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass on Feb. 17 and 18 at the MACC and at BIG Arts on Sanibel Island on Feb. 23. Finally, the Mastersingers Chamber Choir will perform two intimate concerts this season on Feb. 25 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and March 3 at Saint Michael Lutheran Church.
“The Mastersingers are known for our commitment to providing exceptional performances to our community,” said Mastersingers president Jill Janda-Kanner. “We are looking forward to another fantastic season, especially with Matt Koller at the baton.”
