VFW: Legislative updates
If any veteran is interested in learning about specific legislation or VA benefits, he or she may contact VFW’s Washington Office at vfw@vfw.org. There will be a member of VFW’s National Veterans Service staff who will respond as soon as possible.
Some of the items up for supported amendments are Veterans 2nd Amendment Rights Legislation, The expansion of the GI Bill housing benefits, the Transition Assistance Bill, Medical Units for homeless veterans, stopping predatory claim sharks so vets never pay for their benefits, and Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act.
Many of these programs are already in the house being worked on and by contacting the Washington Office, an update on any of these legislations will be provided and explained more thoroughly. Also, many of the topics are covered in the VFW National Magazine which will be going digital this year.
Here at the VFW, Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres, our Officers are also being kept up to date on many of these items and are always happy to confer with any veteran and give any help in the pursuit of these acts. If someone comes in and no officer happens to be available at that time, the bartender will take a message and make certain the correct officer is notified.
We take pride in finding ways to serve our vets, their families and our community. We are embarking on a project for the Jr. ROTC, which actually involves a bit of cleaning! We are asking for old jeans and old sneakers and cleaning out one’s closet could help us fill out the huge boxes we have sitting in our dining room. After all, not all of us have stayed the same weight we were when we purchased some of those jeans!
We are also looking at some new ways to raise funds for our many charities and some of the ideas coming forth are really new and innovating! To find out what these events are, stop by at 25 S. Homestead Road anytime. You’ll be glad you did!
