Next month’s roster of activities at Riverdale Public Library offers topics for all ages.

The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Book Discussion: “The Caretaker” by Ron Rash

10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1

In 1951, Blackburn Gant, the sole caretaker of a hilltop cemetery in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, is charged with caring for his best friend’s wife, Naomi, when he is drafted to serve overseas. As Blackburn and Naomi grow closer and closer, a shocking revelation upends numerous lives.

Discovering the Seminole Wars

2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3

Join historians and award-winning authors John and Mary Lou Missall for a tour of Florida during the Seminole Wars, one of America’s longest, costliest and deadliest Indian Wars. Learn about local history that was also important on a national scale and a forgotten conflict that is surprisingly relevant today.

English Café

6 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

Curiosity Connection: Artificial Intelligence

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14

This month, we’ll explore the current state of artificial intelligence and discuss the impact of AI on business, arts and society. Curiosity Connection aims to bring adults in our community the opportunity to explore a new subject each month in arts, culture, science and technology by combining interactive presentations and hands-on experiences with open and engaging discussions. Participants will have the opportunity to shape future programs by providing monthly subject suggestions.

Painted Canvas Totes

10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17

Create a custom tote bag using acrylic paints. This project can be completed using the provided stencils, but you are encouraged to get creative and make your own designs. Seats are limited. Registration is required.

Knit and Stitch

1 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 7, 21

A casual, self-guided group of knitters and crocheters that join together to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers.

Children’s Programs

Family Storytime

10 a.m. Fridays, Feb. 2, 9

For children through age 5 and caregivers. Families with young children enjoy a variety of stories, songs, rhymes and movement.

Storytelling with Windell Campbell featuring African-American Stories

10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16

Experience the art of puppetry with the art of storytelling. Mr. Windell uses props and audience participation to bring stories to life. Stories could include “Br’er Rabbit,” “Anansi,” “Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears,” “The People Could Fly,” or the story of “John Henry.”

Baby Rhyme Time

10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23

For babies up to 18 months. Babies and caregivers wiggle and giggle in a supportive environment. Space is limited. Arrive early and visit the children’s desk to check in.

Teen Programs

Recycled Valentines

3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8

Teens are invited to celebrate love, creativity and sustainability. From repurposed paper to discarded fabric and beyond, participants will create personalized Valentine’s Day cards with a sustainable twist. Join us for an eco-friendly twist on Valentine’s Day as we transform discarded materials into heartfelt, one-of-a-kind cards. Materials will be provided.
