VFW: Why join?
If you are a Veteran of any generation, there is an organization set up to assist each of you. It is called the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and was established many years ago. In order to become a member, you must have been honorably discharged, and had your boots on the ground in any conflict our country has been involved in since World War 1.
Helping America’s service members, veterans and their families has always and will always be the top priority of the VFW. In case you’re wondering, there is a wide range of free veteran and military families support programs. Joining the VFW will enable one to take advantage of these programs.
One of the biggest aides is the free professional help which is given in filing or appealing a claim. Anyone who has ever had to deal with government papers will realize what a boon this can be. Not only is that a plus, there is a scholarship for post secondary education and also a program that provides emergency financial relief when the times get tough.
The VA is always appealing to Washington to provide mental wellness for those who have been in combat. It is also fighting for compensation for those who have suffered from many of the diseases or traumas incurred while serving in a foreign country. VFW members go out of their way to support the various VA bills trying to get passed in Washington.
The VFW also has a special program to train service officers on the best ways to navigate VA bureaucracy so you don’t have to. These officers are held to a higher standard than what is required by the VA. That’s why the free service offered by VFW’s 2,000 service officers is so valued.
