Justin D’Angelo Copland, of Lehigh Acres, was sentenced to life in prison for the killing of a woman outside her home on May 19, 2022.

Copland was found guilty of second degree murder with a firearm in December.

The defendant was convicted in December, following a jury trial in Lee County.

According to the State Attorney’s Office, Copland shot a woman four times in the head at a home in Lehigh Acres, killing her. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found the victim on the floor inside the home. Two adults and two juveniles were inside the house at the time of the shooting and were unharmed.

The investigation revealed that the victim was meeting with Copland outside the front of her home when he fired multiple shots and drove away.

Officials say that several hours later, after discarding the firearm, showering, and changing his clothes, Copland appeared at a Lee County Sheriff’s Office substation, saying that he just shot someone.

Assistant State Attorney Brenda Wade, of the State Attorney’s Office Homicide Unit, and Assistant State Attorney Leena Marcos prosecuted the case.
