VFW: Newer news
The VFW began with a mission to serve veterans and their families for nearly 125 years. A large part of their commitment is to remember those who didn’t return home. The memories of those fine people will live on with the VFW as it continues to embark on exciting new chapters in its history. The actual date that marks the 125 years is September 29, 2024 and it was 13 veterans of the Spanish American War who gathered in Columbus, Ohio to found the first chapter.
Upcoming plans of the VA are to fund studies on Psychedelic Drugs in collaboration with other academic institutions, it recently distributed $174 million for suicide prevention grants, especially as there has been a slight increase in veterans suicide. It also urges the passage of the Guard Act (which would prevent entities from seeking to take the hard earned benefits away from veterans), and join other Posts in becoming a Beacon of Hope for those dealing with PTSD.
Many Posts around the world are beginning to offer Yoga programs to help veterans and community members experience physical and mental health improvements. These same Posts are pushing toward boosting membership and making certain to ask the most eligible veterans to join the VFW.
Another big push of the VFW is to commemorate women veterans for their service and contributions to military history. Since women have been an essential part of America’s military, they must continue to push boundaries to overcome decades of obstacles. Different posts are creating annual events to help recognize the service of women. The VFW is also working to ensure women receive proper care with health care services and benefits.
At our VFW Post 4174 located in Lehigh Acres, we are constantly working to follow in the footsteps of the VA Administration. Our goals are to continue to serve our community, our members, and the children, who are the future of this country. The oath taken way back when military service began is so ingrained in our hearts and minds, we will continue to serve.
