VFW: Current connections
There are many connotations connected with the month of May. Most noted is Mother’s Day, but there’s proms, graduations, military remembrances and of course, May is also the observation days of Older Americans.
Quality time with friends is a well known fact which is responsible for us feeling joyful, refreshed, a bit more youthful and many times sees us at ease. We don’t always realize how beneficial socialization is for us physically, mentally and emotionally. Being amongst others socially is almost as good for us as physical exercises.
Here at our VFW Post 4174, we do a lot of socializing and even some exercising! Standing up for the Pledge of Allegiance during meetings, and also standing for a Chaplain’s prayer definitely uses some muscles. And, during a close Bingo game, a person may even get so excited as to jump up and yell when all the squares are covered. The jump is certainly a good form of exercise.
And, lest we forget, every Wednesday and Friday evenings, we have entertainment and clear the tables out of the way so those enthusiasts can get out on the dance floor and show off the moves they were famous for in their younger days.
We have some very good meals on Wednesdays, Fridays and the second Saturday of the month. Now, while many of them wouldn’t be considered among the Mediterranean diet category, they could definitely fit under the banner of a Happy Meal. It never hurts to get a calendar at the beginning of the month to see what is on for any particular day.
Socializing is very important, so we are letting everyone know we are located at 25 S. Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres. Our hours begin at 9 a.m. from Sunday to Saturday and there are always plenty of people to talk to which can help you embrace current connections. While the different activities may not involve tons of muscles, they certainly offer a power of connection which is so important to keeping a better life.
Stop in and visit us. You’ll be glad you did!
