VFW: More to come

By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Oct 23, 2024

If you didn’t manage to get to our Post on Saturday, the 19th for our Oktoberfest party put on by our bartenders, you missed a really fun time along with some very delicious meals! And, there was tons of great German music for one to sing along too or get up and dance with a favorite partner.

This week will begin the work on redoing our parking lot in the back, and will take 2 days this week and two more next week. Once the lot is done, handicap access will be close by a back door which will enable those with walkers to glide in so much easier and for those not handicapped, the other back door enables one to enter without encountering smoke from the smoking “lounge” outside.

Our normal activities will still be going on. The church next door to us has generously donated the use of their parking lot while our repairs are happening and we need to remember to keep that lot clean as a gesture of thanks to them.

Upcoming events include a wing bake-off, a baked goods contest, a pot luck Halloween Party, Texas Hold-Em, Hillbilly Bingo, Show me the Money, Regular Bingo, lunches, dinners, Karaoke and of course, our excellent Sunday Breakfast.

We are participating in a Trunk or Treat party this coming Saturday, and have been planning on some of the events coming up in the next two months, such as charitable activities to some of our neighbors, gifts for children who normally wouldn’t be able to have a special Christmas and donations to different charities.

We are also looking forward to welcoming our many Snowbird members on their return and are excited to let them see all the changes we have made so far this year. Our “Little Post with the Big Heart” is a great place to come to for socializing and also learning of the benefits and rewards which stem from being a veteran as well as a member of our neighborhood. Our Post is always up to date on the happenings of the VA administration and keeping our veterans informed of any changes to their opportunities for assistance.

For more information, stop in at 25 S. homestead Road or give us a call at 239-369-5100. If you haven’t been here before, we are the VFW Post 4174 in Lehigh Acres. We are open 7 days a week and would be happy to meet and greet you. You’ll be glad you did!
