VFW: December doings

By Submitted by Pat Whitehall - | Dec 6, 2024

Thanksgiving came late this year, so the month of December is already here and that means we are all scrambling to put up our tree, decorate the halls, string the lights, put out the inflated decorations, get the cards written and sent if you still do that, do the shopping, whether on line or in store, start wrapping the gifts, bring out the recipe book for the cookies and cakes and still find time to find a few minutes to rest.

A good way to relax would be to visit our VFW in Lehigh Acres, located at 25 S. Homestead Road for a stress free outing. We have a great breakfast every Sunday morning starting at 8:30 til 11 a.m. Since this is still football season, there are multiple tv’s to watch looking for your favorite team so you can cheer them on. We have snacks and some good bar food to help satisfy your appetite while watching the games.

During the week, there is lunch from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and each day, the suggestions change. Monday nights is a game called Show Me the Money, the Queen of Hearts and some delicious meals from Angie. Tuesdays are always the meetings for our members, but the canteen is open along with some scrumptious bar food, Wednesday sees a different home cooked meal each week, Thursday at 6 p.m. being the regular Bingo and Fridays have home cooked dinners as well and they begin at 5 p.m.

Saturdays are also pretty busy with poker at noon every week, the 2nd and 4th Saturdays is when Hillbilly Bingo is played and the bar food is available all the time on those days. But, let us not forget this is the month of the biggest holidays of the year so our Christmas Pot Luck is the 21st this year and of course, Dec. 31 is the New Year’s Eve Party with a Pot Luck Meal.

The Little Post with a Big Heart is the VFW Post 4174. We are open 7 days a week and are always happy to see our neighbors as well as our members. Even though there are many fun activities going on, we still find time to continue with our community events and committees. To find out more about us and what we do,m stop in or give us a call at 239-369-5100. You’ll be glad you did!
