A Kentucky man was found guilty of sexual battery of a child in a case dating back to the middle of 2022.

William Michael Teany, 41, was convicted Thursday of familial or custodial sexual battery on a child older than 12, but younger than 18 years of age. Besides the guilty verdict, the Lee County jury also made a special finding of penetration, following the three-day trial.

Assistant State Attorneys Adam Sullivan and Erin Hughes prosecuted the case.

According to court records, the crime occurred in July 2022 at the victim’s Lehigh Acres home. It was there that Teany was found to have sexually battered a child left in his care while their parents were out of town. The victim immediately told an adult and law enforcement was contacted.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation.

Teany is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 2.
