Bacon Fest | Popular pub crawl returns to the South Cape next Saturday

By CJ HADDAD - | Aug 21, 2025

A South Cape tradition sure to bring some sizzle returns next weekend for its 11th installment, highlighting a top tier breakfast food with a passionate fan base.

The South Cape Hospitality & Entertainment Association’s Bacon Fest Pub Crawl hits the South Cape next Saturday night where attendees can get their fix of bacon-themed appetizers and drinks from 12 participating locations.

Participants will also get to vote on their favorite drink and appetizer with bragging rights at stake. Limo buses will transport attendees to four strategic locations, making it convenient to hop between nearby participating establishments on foot.

SCHEA spokesperson Shannon Quinn said Bacon Fest is one of the organization’s most popular pub crawls all year.

“SCHEA gets just as excited for it as everyone else,” she said. “Let’s be honest, bacon is the sixth love language, so of course it brings people out.

“Who doesn’t want to be surrounded by bacon bites and creative concoctions? Since this is a voting event, the locations really pull out all the stops.”

South Cape establishments welcome the party, as they get to become a bit creative and concoct creations to fit the theme.

“Oh, they go ‘hog wild’ with it,” Quinn said. “Every year gets better and better with creativity with the appetizers and creations.”

Participating locations and samples include:

• BackStreets Sports Bar – Flapjack Sunrise & Creamy Bacon Cheese Dip

• Cruisers – Bacon Rimshot Bloody Mary & Bacon Benedictine Bites

• The Dive – Pig Punch & Smokies with Bacon Glaze

• Dixie Roadhouse – Smoky Bacon Mule & Bacon Cheddar Cheez-its

• Hooked Island Grill – TBD & Cured Candied Pork Belly

• Monkey Bar Steak & Seafood – John Daly & Bacon Ravioli

• Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery – TBD & BBQ Bacon Wrapped Shrimp

• Rack’em Spirits & Times – Whiskey Pig & Bacon Jam with Crackers

• Ralph’s Place – TBD

• Rusty’s Raw Bar & Grill – Caramel Bourbon Bacon Cheesecake Martini & Baked Bacon, Garlic Butter & Parmesan Stuffed Mushrooms

Tickets for Bacon Fest are $25 in advance on Eventbrite (plus fees; $30 day-of) and include a drink and appetizer sample at each location, wristband to board limo buses, a passport of locations, eligibility to win prizes, and access to the official photo booth located at Dolphin Key Resort under the front awning. Designated Driver tickets are $20 and include sample appetizer and non-alcoholic drink at each location.

Those who turn out can stamp their passport at each location to be entered to win the grand prize: 15 pounds of bacon and a themed gift basket. Visit the official photo booth to have your picture taken and be entered to win four tickets to the “Save Second Base Pub Crawl” on Oct. 5.

“We never know what to expect, but in the past, we’ve seen bacon shirts, pig noses, pig ears and even bacon onesies,” Quinn said of attendees’ attire. “We recommend it all and then some.”

Guests can check in from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Big John’s Plaza and Dolphin Key Resort. Late check-in runs until 10 p.m. under the front entry awning of the Dolphin Key Resort (1502 Miramar St.). The event is 21-plus and photo I.D. must be presented at check-in.

Quinn said if someone has never experienced a SCHEA pub crawl and has wanted to, this is a great event to explore.

“They’re the ultimate mix of food, drinks, entertainment and community spirit,” she said. “If you’ve never done one, Bacon Fest is the perfect first because nothing says a ‘great night out’ like a bacon-themed pub crawl.”
