The U.S. Postal Service needs to have its equipment returned! Equipment that is being used nationwide for non-postal purposes costs USPS millions of dollars to replace-more than $120 million this year alone. The cost of flat tubs and pallets run from $4 to $20 each.
That's why the Postal Service is asking customers to return all trays, flat tubs, and pallets, including pressed wood, slat wood, and plastic to their nearest Post Office or processing plant.
Replacing missing or misused equipment hurts the Postal Service's bottom line. Companies are asked to order their own hampers and equipment to use for storage.
Southwest Florida is short of postal containers; these are needed in order to be ready for the Holiday. Please look around for any containers you are not using and send back to the Post Office that serves you.
USPS encourages customers to report equipment that's being misused, stored unnecessarily or located outside the postal network. Send leads and tips to HQMTE@usps.gov or call the hotline at 866-330-3404. New tubs have the hotline number and email address on the equipment to report misuse. The change was made to encourage the return of flat tubs to post offices and to advise customers that its equipment is not available for private use.
And, please . . . if you happen to have one or more of the equipment items, either give them to your mail carrier or return them to your local Post Office.
