The U.S. Postal Service announces its newest stamps:

USPS salutes author Edgar Rice Burroughs

The U.S. Postal Service is honoring one of the most prolific authors of the early 20th century, and inventor of the iconic character, Tarzan, by issuing the Edgar Rice Burroughs Forever Stamp.

The stamp's First Day of Issue coincided with the 100th anniversary of the publication of Burroughs' first story, "Under the Moons of Mars," and his first Tarzan story, "Tarzan of the Apes," in 1912.

Best known for his books and stories featuring Tarzan, Burroughs wrote more than 70 books, including historical fiction and several popular series of science fiction tales. The Edgar Rice Burroughs Forever Stamp was dedicated at the Tarzana Community and Cultural Center in Tarzana, CA.

The stamp can be purchased at Post Offices nationwide, online at usps.com/store and by phone at 800-STAMP-24 (800-782-6724).

Dedication ceremony for USS Constitution stamp

The USS Constitution - the world's oldest commissioned warship still afloatset sail once again in the form of Forever stamps to commemorate the War of 1812 bicentennial.

The colorful first-day-of-issue ceremony took place next to "Old Ironsides" in Boston's Charleston Navy Yard. The stamp depicts the oldest known painting of the USS Constitutiona circa 1803 painting by Michele Felice Corne that is exhibited in the USS Constitution Museum.

The day after the ceremony, the ship set sail for the first time since 1997 to commemorate its victory over the British ship HMS Guerriere during the War of 1812.

USS Constitution stamps can be purchased at Post Offices, online at usps.com/store and by phone at 800-STAMP-24 (800-782-6724).

No '12 Hanukkah stamp

Due to disappointing sales of the 2011 Hannukah Forever postage stamp, the U.S. Postal Service will not be issuing a 2012 stamp.

A limited supply of 2011 Hanukkah Forever stamps is available for sale. If you wish to purchase Hanukkah stamps, they should be purchased as soon as possible.

Mr. Zip's tip

In 2011, stamp and retail sales at the Postal Store, the official online Post Office, totaled more than $236 million.
