Shane Cameron Lee Wood, 36, of Lehigh Acres, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012. He was born July 8, 1976, in Lansing, Mich., the son of Linda Washburn and Douglas Wood.
He loved music, swimming, horseback riding and stories that made him giggle.
He especially loved his teachers and friends at Beckman Center, a special school for the handicapped that he attended from age 4 until his graduation at age 26.

He was well-liked and won several first-place Special Olympics awards, including the most popular student award when he graduated.
After he graduated, he lived at home with his mother for another 10 years. He lived with his family from his birth until his death.
He moved to Lehigh Acres shortly after Hurricane Charley. Despite the constant decline of his illness, he continued to fight and be strong.
He touched many hearts and brought many to tears with his will, determination and smile. He was well loved by his mother, who never gave up despite the many challenges they faced.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Washburn; brothers, Terry and Shad Washburn; sister, Katrina (John) Washburn Ketchersid; nephews, Justice Washburn and Luke Ketchersid; and niece, Kiana Ketchersid.
