Free entry to pool on Saturdays for summer

In partnership with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Nations Association, Lee County Parks and Recreation and the Lee County School District, the Tice Community Pool is helping children cool off and take pride in their community this summer.

At 4515 Glenwood Ave., the pool will open June 1 and will be available to the public every Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. until Aug. 3. Admission is free.

Safety is a priority and a number of deputies and volunteers have become certified life guards for the outreach. Water safety instructions given on site.

Gardening workshops scheduled for youth

Grow A Gardener, an eight-session weekly workshop on edible gardening, will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 3 to July 29 at Veterans Park Recreation Center, at 55 Homestead Road S.

Sessions include soil, seeds, water, worm composting, plant parts, propagation, insects and fruit/vegetable identification. All instructors are volunteer Lee County Master Gardeners.

Children ages 8-15 can sign up online at: webtrac.leegov.com.

A materials fee of $20 per child is payable to the instructor. A $10 per person, or $25 per family, lifetime membership fee to Veterans Park is also required.

Cayuga Music Studio Spring Concert planned

The Cayuga Music Studio Spring Concert will be held at 2 p.m. June 9 at Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 Leland Heights Blvd.

Come and hear all this year's award winner; one student won more than $4,000. The event is free and open to the public.

Alzheimer's caregivers support group to meet

The Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer's Resource Center will host a support group meeting for caregivers throughout Lee County at 2 p.m. June 17 at the Lehigh Acres United Way House, at 201 Plaza Drive, Suite 3.

The meeting will include an opportunity for caregivers to meet others who are facing similar challenges and learn more about Alzheimer's disease and effective coping strategies. Select meeting locations feature a guest speaker, as well as an informal time for sharing.

Women's Club to discuss immigration

The Democratic Women's Club of Lee County will meet at 10:30 a.m. June 8 at the Hilton Garden Inn at College Parkway and Summerlin Road.

The featured speaker is the Rev. Allison Farnum, of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Myers. The topic will be "Call to Compassion - Immigration."

Farnum will explain how immigration is a moral issue and why it is our duty as civic-minded people of conscience to call upon the government for compassionate immigration reform. It also involves reminding ourselves of our interdependence as a human family and our universal stories of migration.

'Pickin' In The Park set

Musicians come together to perform during 'Pickin' In The Park from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the lodge by the lake at the rear of Veterans Park.
