Programs at East County library

The roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adults

- Meet the Author: Analiese Douchay

6 p.m. Sept. 18

Experience the courage of young Analiese who battled horrific child abuse and then reclaimed her life to become an inspiration to others. Names were changed to protect the innocent. Not recommended for children under 16. Registration is required.

- Books for E-readers

10:30 a.m. Sept. 19

Learn how to check out library e-books to read on a Nook, Kindle or other e-reader device. Bring a personal device to class (and a laptop if using a Nook reader). Class size is limited to 10 participants. Registration is required.

Family

- Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m. Sept. 16

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby. These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult.

- Family Storytime

6:30 p.m. Sept. 24

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

Children

- Preschool Storytime

10:30 a.m. Sept. 25

10:30 a.m. Sept. 26

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span.

- Kids Read Down Fines

3-4 p.m. Sept. 21

4:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 25

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger.

- Celebramos! Hispanic Heritage Month Storytime

10:30 a.m. Sept. 27

A bilingual storytime for preschoolers in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Teens

- Wii Play Wii Dance

2 p.m. Sept. 16 and 30

Play favorite games and dance to favorite songs. Game choice will vary from program to program. Snacks provided. Registration is not required but the program is limited to 25 participants.

- Game On! Board Games!

2 p.m. Sept. 23

Play a variety of board games at this relaxed and fun for all program. Registration is not required but the program is limited to 25 participants. Snacks will be provided.

4:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 25

- TeenReads Bagels and Books Club: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

2 p.m. Sept. 25

Celebrate the American Library Association's Banned Books Week. Join others to share thoughts and reactions to Stephen Chbosky's "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," one of ALA's top 100 challenged books. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required.
